Gifted Education Policy and Administrative Intern

The Office for Exceptional Children is seeking an intern to work with the Ohio Department of Education’s gifted education staff to support activities related to gifted education policies and practices. The intern will conduct research and analysis and provide support for the agency’s efforts to communicate state regulations and policies for gifted education. The intern will also assist staff in the review of district gifted identification plans and gifted education policies.
 
Major Responsibilities & Duties:
·        Participate in the review of district gifted identification plans and gifted education policies 
·        Research gifted education policy issues and topics, including those related to equitable practices for identification and services; and develop memos, summaries and recommendations
·        Analyze data and summarize findings
·        Present research results in written and graphical formats
·        Prepare presentations for stakeholder engagement
·        Communicate relevant and accurate information, clearly and concisely during formal or informal meetings
·        Collaborate with others to accomplish goals 
·        Use various tools and technologies to prepare and share documents and reports 
·        Provide essential support such as arranging meetings, taking notes, and responding to routine inquiries
·        Perform other related duties as assigned 

Minimum Qualifications:
·        Current enrollment in baccalaureate or graduate degree program.
 
Desired Qualities:
·        Interested in education policy and research, specifically gifted education
·        Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
·        Ability to write and communicate succinctly and clearly
·        Capable of working independently and in a team setting 
·        Self-motivated
·        Strong interpersonal skills
·        Desire to work as part of a team and interact with the education community
·        Experience working in a professional environment
 
Additional Information:
·        This position may be eligible for remote work but occasional travel to Columbus may be required.
·        This position will require a weekly commitment of 15-20 hours.
·        The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check as well as other investigative reviews. Criminal convictions do not necessarily preclude an applicant from consideration for a position, unless restricted under state or federal law or federal restrictions. An individual assessment of an applicant's prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration.
