Civil Engineer 1 - Bridge Engineer

The Montgomery County Engineer's Office (MCEO), located in Dayton, Ohio, is responsible for building, maintaining, and operating 525 bridges and 315 miles of county roads. MCEO is seeking an entry level bridge engineer to join our design team. Position assists senior engineering staff with the inspection, design and preparation of plans for bridges and culverts.

Summary of Job Duties
Performs design activities and assists in the preparation of bid submittal documents for bridge and culvert projects; Assists staff with the development of bridge replacement, rehabilitation, and maintenance programs; Performs structural analysis to determine safe load carrying capacities; Performs project coordination activities involving utility companies, property owners, and other government agencies; Prepares construction drawings and design using AutoCAD.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) curriculum; Master degree preferred. 0 to 3 years of engineering design experience involving road, bridge and/or drainage projects; Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering examination within one year of beginning employment; Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Familiarity with AutoCAD preferred, but not required. Strong interest in structures and materials desired; Ability to analyze problems and deal with conflict effectively; Self-motivated individual who seeks and accepts responsibility; Strong communication skills and experience relating to the public, peers and support personnel. Valid State of Ohio Driver's License or ability to obtain within 6 months.
