This position is with the South Dakota Department of the Military which works in support of the South Dakota Army National Guard. The working title of this position is Project Manager. The incumbent will manage and design construction for capital improvement projects associated with the South Dakota Army National Guard’s facilities; perform professional engineering work of easy to moderate complexity; design, review, and recommend approval of construction plans and technical specifications; ensure construction plans and technical specifications comply with federal and state regulations, codes, and standards; and provide construction observation and inspection of building projects to ensure compliance with construction plans and technical specifications; coordinate with other engineers, consultants, and various stakeholders to facilitate participation in project design and construction.
A typical work week is from Tuesday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (10 hour days) - an alternate work schedules may be considered and approved.
Work is completed in a typical office environment. Some in-state travel is required for site investigations and construction administration with occasional overnight stays as necessary for long distance and/or multi-day work trips.
The individual selected will undergo a National Security Check to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) for access to the federal computer system.
Licenses and Certifications: 
Engineering Intern OR PE registered in the State of South Dakota
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Only applicants with a bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical or civil) will be considered.
Knowledge of:
  • engineering principles;
  • project/contract management;
  • AutoCAD;
  • building codes and standards;
  • development of construction plans and technical specifications for public improvement projects;
  • review of construction plans and technical specifications;
  • building construction methods;
  • building and site inspections;
  • principles of effective human relations and dealing with the public.
Ability to:
  • work independently and to establish effective working relationships with co-workers, consultants, contractors, and other agency personnel;
  • conduct presentations and lead meetings;
  • coordinate work of project teams to accomplish agency objectives in a timely manner;
  • establish good relationships with co-workers, consultants, contractors and other agency personnel.
